Kevin Peter Hall

Kevin Peter Hall

Day 12: 29 Days of Blackness

We may all remember Kevin Peter Hall for his contribution to the movie industry without actually recognizing his face. However, his larger than life size (7’4″) is unforgettable. He went toe to toe with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover as the menacing creature in the first two films in the Predator franchise and as the loveable sasquatch in Harry in the Hendersons.

He also had a guest role on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Before LeVar Burton got the role, Hall was one of the few actors who was in consideration for the role of Geordi La Forge. I can’t imagine a 7 foot engineer working on the USS Enterprise :). Hall’s body of work includes a number of projects on the big screen and on television. During his 11 episode run on the sitcom, 227 he met his wife, fellow actress Alaina Reed. The two remained married until his death in 1991 due to complications from AIDS-related pneumonia. He was 35.

Fun fact: During its developmental stages, the Predator was going to be played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played the Predator for the first few scenes, but was not billed in the end credits. The producers decided to recast the role with Hall so that the Predator could more convincingly dominate the film’s human characters with its greater size.
